How To Build Self-Confidence

What is self-confidence?

Self-confidence is how you feel about yourself over-all as a person. Everybody has their own personal view of themselves that is different than how others see us. What other people think about us is important to us. Try to stay positive about yourself and what you can do. Remember that you are a special and unique person!

1. Focus on your strong points

We all have strengths and weaknesses. Make a list of both the good and bad things about yourself. Maybe get a friend or close relative to help you with this. Stay focused on your strengths, and make a commitment to improve on your weaknesses each and every day.

2. Feed your body

Good physical health will help you build your confidence. By eating foods that are good for you, it not only feeds your body, but feeds your spirit, too. Having a healthy diet and eating habits gives your body the fuel it needs to grow and stay healthy. A healthy body means a healthy outlook on life.

3. Choose friends with positive attitudes

Attending activities and hanging out with people who have a positive attitude can help build our own confidence. It’s hard to be sad when you surround yourself with happy people. The more self-confidence you have, the stronger of a person you become. The stronger you are, the more you will want to reach out to those people who may not have a good self-esteem about themselves.

4. Turn Negatives into Positives

We all make mistakes. If we didn’t, we wouldn’t be human. Once you accept that you’re not perfect and that you are going to make mistakes, it’s easier to turn a mistake into a learning experience. It’s a given fact that bad things are going to happen. Sometimes, we make the wrong decisions in life, and that’s normal. If you learn how to take something bad and turn it into something good, it will make you feel more self-confident.

5. Be proud of who you are

You are you, and sometimes we have a tendency to think negative thoughts about ourselves like, “Nobody likes me”, or “I’m always messing up”. Stay away from negative thoughts, and learn to be proud of yourself and your accomplishments, and keep building on that. To quote Taylor Swift at her Grammys acceptance speech: “If you just focus on the work and you don’t let people sidetrack you, someday when you get to where you’re going, you’ll look around and you will know it was you.”
